Happy late Thanksgiving, everyone! I love that Thanksgiving gives us the chance to remember how blessed we are. However, sometimes we forget to count our blessings in the Christmas season that comes after. Fear not! There is a cure: service.
Service, especially at this time of the year, allows us to recognize the blessings we have and share them with others. It humbles us and gets rid of that sense of entitlement that kills Christmas joy.
One of the best things about Provo is the plethora of opportunities to serve, as spoken of by many of my fellow bloggers. I want to talk today about ways we can help Santa out by serving this holiday season. Here are just a few:
Habitat for Humanity needs volunteers to sell See’s Candies and wrap gifts at the Provo Towne Centre from now until Christmas Eve to raise money to build housing housing for low-income families.
At Santa’s Workshop, volunteers are needed to help sort and organize donated presents to go to families. Volunteers must be able to lift at least 15 lbs.
Sub for Santa is a program that helps low-income children helps provide Christmas for low-income children. They need volunteers to help direct workshops where parents can apply.
Kids On The Move, Inc. is looking for volunteers to collect books for younger children.
There are so many more opportunities if you just look for them. If none of these work out for you, I recommend looking at the United Way of Utah County website. They have a filter that allows you to pick what kinds of volunteering you would like to do.
I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities to serve this holiday season. It will enrich your life and help you enjoy Christmas time so much more! Let’s show thanks for what we have by sharing our blessings with others this holiday season.
